Name: Mary Age: 36 Contact: Timezone: GMT Other Character(s): Bela Talbot (Supernatural) |
Name: Laurel Lance Door: Door Pass Canon: Arrow (DCTV) Canon Point: Legends of Yesterday (Season 4, Ep 8) Age: 30 Appearance: As Laurel | As Black Canary History: here Personality: Positive Trait: Empathy At her core, Laurel is a very loving person. She is in tune with her emotions and is also aware of the emotional needs of those around her. A deeply caring individual with a lot of love to give. Despite the turmoil of her personal relationships, she never stops caring, even for relative strangers. She is willing to put her life on the line for other people and put their needs above her own. The forgiveness of her sister is a turning point for Laurel because now, they could be what they always wanted to be. Building up that trust between them enabled Laurel to take on her sister's legacy after she was killed and helped her to forgive Thea after she came clean about murdering her sister. Her empathy also gives Laurel a strong sense of moral justice. This is the reason why she decides to join the City Necessary Resources Initiative (CNRI) instead of becoming a corporate lawyer; she chose to work for and represent people who were overlooked by the city. Such people included a child whose parents were killed and had people looking for him, others include those who were failed by the system. When the CNRI was destroyed by a man-made earthquake, Laurel risked her life to retrieve essential files that would help potential clients. Negative Trait: Self-destructive As noted below, Laurel became an addict. It was primarily alcohol, but she also took some painkillers that belonged to her father. The disappearance of her sister had a traumatic effect upon Laurel and her immediate family; her parents divorced and Laurel was left to look after her father when he became an alcoholic. Then she threw herself into law school, choosing to work for a not for profit clinic in which she worked for people who had been through awful experiences. The loss of Tommy affected Laurel as well. When Sara returned, all of those feelings and trauma came back at the same time when Laurel was investigating the mayor and he gaslit her. Instead of dealing with everything in a healthy way, Laurel turned to alcohol and drugs to cope which affected her personal relationships and caused her to lose her job. This went on for some time before she eventually took control of her life again. However, there's always a possibility that she could slip again and fall back into that dark place. This is shown when she finds Sara dead and swears vengeance, looking for her sister's killer. Again, this is self-destructive as she doesn't ask for help and ignores what other people have to say about what she is doing. Negative Trait: Stubborn It could be argued that being stubborn might be a good thing, but I am not presenting it this way for Laurel. Laurel's stubbornness did not always work out in her favour. She became obsessed with exposing the mayor of Star City (where she lives) as a corrupt person, much to the detriment of her own well-being. When the mayor did everything to make her feel like she was wrong (and so did others around her), Laurel sunk into a deep depression and became addicted to alcohol. This wrecked the relationships she had with her family and friends, almost destroying them. Her stubborness also prevented Laurel from listening to other people's advice. An example is when she decided to take justice in her own hands and prevent a mugging from happening. For a moment, she had the upper hand but the mugger got the better of Laurel. When Oliver found out, he told her that she wasn't preparing herself in the right way and that she should stop trying to be a vigilante. Negative Trait: Emotional Sometimes, Laurel's emotions can get the better of her and this can influence her behaviour. An example is when she was angry towards her sister for betraying her and leaving Laurel behind to pick up the pieces of her broken family. This anger drove people away from Laurel, with no support. Over time, we also see a more darker, manipulative side developing within Laurel and she has used this to get what she wants. She would argue that it was justified because of what she has been through. This anger affected Laurel's mental health, leading her to make poor decisions that had repercussions for both Laurel and her inner circle. Even when she got her life back together, Laurel's emotions still influenced some of her decisions which were criticised by the team she was a part of. One decision was to go behind the team's back to save her sister's life - this was a huge risk as it backfired. Eventually, things worked out in the end but it didn't appear to be that way at the beginning. Powers and Abilities: • Skilled in hand-to-hand combat • Skilled in bo staff and tonfa use • Skilled in firearms • Skilled investigator/lawyer • Good instincts Inventory: 1) Bo staff 2) Sobriety chip 3) Canary Cry Samples: 1) TDM top level with different characters 2) Network post: [ When the feed switches on, the only thing that can be seen is a desk with a pile of paperwork on top of it. Laurel appears a few moments later, offering the network an apologetic, yet tired smile. ] Hi. Sorry about that. Still trying to get my office together and it's taking a whole lot longer than I like. Anyway, the point of this is to let people know I'm opening up a legal firm, and while I can't exactly produce my credentials here, I promise that I'm good at what I do. I'm also prepared to take on some pro bono work for people who don't have the finances for a case and for those who can pay, some kind of payment plan could be put in place. But if you're really curious about my work experience, I was once employed by an organisation that helped people who couldn't help themselves. I gave them legal advice and represented them if necessary. Currently, I'm an Assistant District Attorney back home. [ It's said with pride. ] Yeah, I know. Different from where I began but it meant that I could help my city on a wider scale and still uphold the law. I firmly believe in that. [ She allowed the last sentence to linger for a moment or two before continuing. ] Feel free to respond with a private message here or contact me on my device if you want to talk. I'm Laurel by the way. |
